We had a fantastic week away in Cornwall. The weather was so kind to us for the whole trip. Starting the tour Friday morning with a very rewarding concert for the residents of a local care home followed by a rousing evening at the Mason Brewing Co Taproom. The food truck was a welcome addition to the super beers they offered. Saturday morning was a last minute arrangement at the performance area in Boscawen Park, Truro. A quick lunch in the local tea rooms and it was back to the accommodation to get ready for our evening concert for the Cornwall Music Therapy Service charity. We ran our World of Animation programme again and it was well received. Sunday morning we enjoyed playing on the deck outside the tea rooms at Homeleigh Garden Centre, a quick lunch then over to ENYS Gardens to entertain the visitors. It was a beautiful day and we were glad we took our gazebo with us to give us some shade. Monday started with an assembly at Roseland Academy where we demonstrated the instruments, played a few pieces then had some of the brass & woodwind students sit in with us for the last piece. An hours drive to Port Isaac and, following a traditional pasty lunch, we played on the Platt where we had three seagulls ‘deposit’ their contributions over our music and uniforms plus had to move for two boats to be taken down the slipway. Great fun in a weird way!! Tuesday was our last day of performances and first was the Screech Owl Sanctuary where we were invited to watch the display and some of the members had the chance to hold an owl. Finally we were on the Victoria gardens bandstand, a beautiful setting for our last performance and we even got introduced by their local Town Crier. Our final evening at the stunning accommodation so we celebrated with an ‘indoor’ BBQ style meal on our 20 seat dining table!
All in all it was a roaring success, we were made to feel very welcome by the locals, lots of lovely comments from those listening and several invites to return when we can. Thank you Cornwall for your hospitality.
